Yoga
Yoga is the science of ‘Union with God .’ There are various
ways to achieve this. According to Bhagavad-Gita these are
Yoga of action (Karma yoga),Yoga of knowledge (Gyan Yoga)
and Yoga of devotion (Bhakti Yoga) . A Yogi is one who can
imbibe the essence of all the three yogas in his daily life
style. The practice of Yoga has been classically defined by
Patanjali and the system is termed Rajayoga . It has eight
‘angas’ (subunits).
1. Yama (Five universal commandments)
- Non violence
- Truth
- Not stealing
- Chastity
- Not coveting
2. Niyama ( Five personal disciplines)
- Purity
- Contentment
- Austerity
- Study
- Devotion
3. Bodily Posture
4. Pranayam ( Regulated Breathing)
5. Pratyahara ( Restrain of senses)
6. Dharna (Concentration)
7. Dhyana (Meditation)
8. Samadhi (Enlightenment)
The eight are like spokes of a wheel and are complementary
to one another. The consciousness of the people attending
is awakened into this comprehensive realm of yoga through
the various components incorporated. This gives real 'Holistic'
feel to the program. The effect perceived is not only physical
but also include freedom from depression, dilemmas and anxiety.
